A Little Bit Of This, A Little Bit Of That....

Well, the comments were getting a little out of hand on my last post, so I figured I better write something new if I wanted to keep my sanity...I did make it to the gym today and got all weighed and measured up. Can you believe that I'm actually 5 foot one inch and a half! And all this time, I've been telling people that I'm 5 foot and just one inch--today is a happy day for me! They also put these little electrodes on my right foot and hand and I was able to get a print out of some weird facts like how much water I had in my body today. My trainer is very french, and the way she spoke reminded me of a certain youth sponsor named Esther....People have told me that she works her clients very hard, but since I've never worked out in a gym before, she said she'd go a little softer on me for the first 3 months. I think that I'll soon start dreading month number 4....I have spent the week recovering from dog-sitting for a friend earlier this week. Chevy is still a puppy, so I must forgive him for many things--especially tiring me out. In the course of 2 days, he managed to pee numerous times on the floor, on the stairs, in front of the door, and on me; chew through 2 cardboard boxes, chew a new roll of toilet paper, chew a pair of rubber gloves, chew a magazine, dig up some sod beside the house, dig up some garbage from under the snow, and knock over a lamp. He also figured out how to hold the leash in his mouth so it looked like he was walking ME. How embarrassing... I will probably be looking after him on a regular basis, which I'm actually looking forward to....although that does sound strange after all I just wrote. But it's so worth it when he comes and sits beside me and tries to cuddle on my lap. Sidenote: Chevy is a golden retriever/black lab cross, so imagine him trying to cuddle with all 5 feet 1 and a half inches of me in 6 months!

Precious Eggnog...

I just heard the worst ad on the radio for Jenny Craig. They started off by saying that the average weight gain over the holidays is 7 to 10 pounds. Nothing like reminding us what pigs we're going to be in a few short weeks! I'm also going to buy a membership at the gym next week, and did you know that this is the cheapest time to get a gym pass? I thought they would have some good deals in January, but I have been informed by my friend who works at the gym that they boost their prices in January--that is probably when they make the most money during the year with all the New Years resolutions! My mom and dad sent me an email (well, they each sent me the same email separately), and it was so refreshing...basically it said, enjoy the holidays; eat the good food and don't feel guilty about it--it only comes around once a year. My favourite part said that you should drink lots of eggnog, and don't go for the "light" stuff either. I've been drinking eggnog since it came onto the shelves about 2 weeks ago--at this time of year, I can't get enough of it! Right now, I have the light stuff in my fridge (shudder!) but maybe next time I'm in the grocery store, I'll be adventurous and buy the regular stuff. I've also been known to buy soynog. It's actually really good, if you like soy milk--I was pleasantly surprised. But I haven't seen it at Extra Foods yet this year (sigh). When I was a kid, I used to make homemade eggnog with a recipe in a Betty Crocker Cookbook that was my Dad's when he was a kid. Basically, you put in a raw egg, vanilla, milk, and nutmeg. It is sooooo good. That's probably the best kind of eggnog you can get. Don't be turned off by the raw egg! If you need more protein in your diet, then this is the holiday drink for you! I don't have the recipe with me right now, but maybe I'll see if I can get it from my Mom so I can post it. Have you ever tried coffeenog? Just add eggnog to your coffee instead of cream and sugar. Tanneal has also introduced me to eggnog and coke. This is also an interesting combination. I was very sceptical, but it was great! Does anyone else have a cool recipe that uses eggnog? As you can tell I'm a little obsessed with my nogs...

Here I Am!

OK, I've finally entered the age of technology. Not only do I have the internet at home now, but I have also started this blog after being inspired by Joy and some of my friends from Cold Lake. I'm not really sure when I'll find the time to update it (it is called "Sleepless in Sylvan" for a reason), but I'm sure I'll get around to it. My life is a little frenzied at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Christmas is coming so quickly, and it was so nice to take a few moments this morning during our large group time in Sunday School to light the advent candles and reflect on Christ's coming. There were some difficulties in communication, as we talked about Isaiah being a prophet and someone God told His special promises to. Some of the kids just couldn't get it straight that we were talking about a person, and not "profit" (although I was surprised that they knew what that meant too!). Sadly, I've been reminded lately about "profit"--I really do think that toy companies try to expoit children at this time of year! I am so glad that I am no longer working retail these days!!! By the way, I am officially done working at Sears, and am officially working full-time at the church! Woohoo!
