Eccentricity #3

The third eccentricity on my list is the fact that I'm not a picky eater. Now, you might think that this is not out of the ordinary. However, not only am I not picky, I enjoy some strange foods. When I was in preschool, I told my teacher that my favourite food was escargot (still one of my favourites). My roommate in Bible College would kick me out of our room when I opened a can of smoked oysters. I also like to try ethnic foods, and different restaurants. My favourite restaurant in Regina was East India House...mmmmm, curry....I've also ventured into the vegetarian restaurant realm...vegetarian lasagne with goat cheese, anyone? I love spicy foods, the kind that make your lips numb and your eyes water. My Lebanese friends in Jr. High got me hooked on eating roasted melon seeds (which I've only been able to find at Superstore). And working in a health food store, I was able to try many things that the average person might turn their nose up at...cashew butter, carob, crystalized ginger, Udo's oil, unsweetened natural peanut butter, stevia, and the list goes on. I think that I enjoy the adventure of trying something a little different, and it also makes me a little different...that's not so bad is it?

I, for one, think you are very brave in trying new and interesting foods. I wish I was that brave...although I did try escargot that time your parents came to visit you...and it was surprisingly tasty.

The trick is to get your mind around the fact that they were once snails (especially when you chew a bit of sand). When I was that young, mom and dad probably didn't tell me that that's what they were. Like the time they ordered chicken liver for us at a Japanese restaurant and didn't tell us what it was until we were done eating.

Thanks Dags for giving me this idea to blog about...when I have nothing to say this is a great conversation starter!!!!

I love trying new food as well...however I am a picky eater...but one thing I love that many do not is sushi...love it! One of my fave dishes! Escargot...now not so much...more of a texture thing for me...but that will be another post!

As a well-known "picky" eater, you have my utmost respect. Although I do enjoy escargot, and I have my moments of craving calamari. When I was in high school, I went to dinner at my uncle's and we had spaghetti. After the meal was finished, he told us it was made with bear meat. I didn't even notice the difference, although I'm sure there was one. Have you tried any of the foods on that website that Grace told us about? :)

Oh those poor little snails...you could be eating a mommy or daddy and making a little baby snail an orphan! How can you live with yourself??

don't worry.. it's very likely you'd eat the baby too - you may in fact eat a whole snail clan... tehy could happily take vacation in the warm climate of your tummy before eventually making their way down a waterfall and into the voidless blu yonder. :D
