To hoard or not to hoard...that is the question
I just finished watching a hilarious episode of Dr Phil on packrats and hoarding. And if you know me well, you know why I was laughing so hard...I'm a hoarder! Well, I have to admit that I'm not a hoarder to the extent these women are, particularly the woman they featured on the second half of the show, but I'll be the first to admit that I have too much "stuff". In my house it's fairly obvious that I have a lot of "stuff" since I have to find creative ways to store, stack and stash it...there really isn't much storage in this little house. The reason this show got me laughing is that I was just telling a friend the other night that I'm trying to reform, cut my clutter and get rid of some of the things I really don't need. So slowly but surely I'm making a pile of "stuff" that I will decide whether or not I want to keep...stuff that just doesn't fit in anywhere. This includes a large pile of candles and candleholders (that's for you, Dad!). I am also planning on buying a shredder so I can get rid of a whole rubbermaid container of paper clutter. Now if only I could figure out what to do with a bag of pinecones and and big box of antique wooden spools...any ideas? Yes, I watch home organization shows and look at websites pushing the joys of organizing your home, but I find that doing anything they suggest is often impossible for me. Because I rent, I can't just go and invest hundreds of dollars in built-in organizers, hang crazy things from the ceiling or buy new furniture with built in storage...so I try to get creative in my own way...a few dressers, rubbermaids for storage and baskets. As T can attest to, every nook and cranny in my house is used! Oprah is on right now (yes, Dr. Phil and Oprah are unfortunately a regular part of my after work routine...) and they just featured a $75 million mansion...so now I'm thinking that everything would be better if I just moved into that house...I could really spread things out and it wouldn't be cluttered at all! The solution to my problems!
